Joseph Walter Scott (M.A. 1959 Ph.D. 1963) has passed away. Dr. Scott was a leader in the field of sociology, he was president of the North Central Sociological Association. He helped to make the study of Black social life a part of mainstream sociology, beginning with his membership in the Caucus of Black Sociologists, which later became the Association of Black Sociologists and to which he was elected president and his stint as the American Sociological Association Chair of the Ethnic and Racial Minorities Section.
