The interdepartmental major in Sociology and African American and African Diaspora Studies (AAADS) provides you with a depth of knowledge about both sociology and African American culture, while gaining transferrable skills in critical and analytical thinking.
You study the forces that influence human behavior and prepare to work with diverse populations, examining social issues from a cross-cultural perspective. You learn about history, culture, and social issues concerning Black Americans and other descendants of the African Diaspora, while becoming familiar with the discipline of sociology and considering the impact of race on social relations.
This interdepartmental degree is designed for students who want to pursue these two major areas of study but do not want to limit their course work in other liberal arts areas by having to take all the classes necessary for the completion of two majors.
