Yingjian Liang is a PhD candidate in sociology at Indiana University. His research examines the social processes facilitating or impeding the social mobility of marginalized groups.
His dissertation, Culture, Networks, and the Job Search Process, investigates the social processes through which marginalized job seekers with limited initial access to cultural and network resources overcome these barriers and achieve mobility in the labor market. His other lines of work explore how marginalized groups navigate the lack of mobility opportunities in education and the labor market, and the impacts of organizational practices on individuals’ chances of success.
Yingjian’s research has received funding from ASA Culture Section, Midwestern Sociological Society, and Indiana University. His work has been published in Social Problems.
