Jennifer Jiwon Lee is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University – Bloomington. At the core of her research lies the question: Why does gender inequality persist despite substantial progress in women's material circumstances? She examines this question across various contexts including: (1) the academic career, (2) higher education, and (3) the workplace.
Her dissertation uses content analysis of 1,790 articles that cite men and women social scientists who own academic ideas that have made their ways into the public discourse. She finds that even in social sciences - a discipline in which women are well-represented, cultural gender biases persist and continue to portray women as less-scientific, less-competent, and less-professional. Jennifer’s research has been published in Gender & Society and Community, Work, and Family.
