Warm greetings from Bloomington!

On behalf of all of our colleagues in the Department of Sociology, we are delighted to present a special Summer 2021 edition of our department newsletter. This special edition captures the events of this past year. It features stories about our new faculty, updates on faculty activities, faculty and student awards, and department transitions. Whether you have been away for a long time or just a few years, we hope that these stories connect you back to your Bloomington friends.

Portrait of Christine Von Der Haar on her retirement.

Christine Von Der Haar retired in the summer of 2020. She completed her Ph.D. at Indiana University in 1985 and years later returned to teach for the IU Sociology Department in the fall of 1992. Her cheerful demeanor and enthusiasm for her subjects endeared her to many students.

He was a faculty member at several colleges and universities, including Washington University of St. Louis, Dartmouth College, Vanderbilt University, and retired as a professor emeritus from Indiana University in 1994.
