Postdoctoral Fellow in Sociology
Brenton Kalinowski’s scholarship focuses broadly on the concept of trust with particular emphasis on how race, ethnicity, and different forms of culture, such as religion, shape trust in scientific and medical technologies. This interest in trust also extends to understanding how and when non-profit and religious organizations work together to discuss and respond to issues of racial justice. He is a multi-methods researcher who uses in-depth interviews and surveys. He has teaching interests in the areas of science and technology, racial inequality, health, data ethics, social theory, and research methods.
Brenton Kalinowski received his Ph.D. in sociology from Rice University, he earned an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and completed his undergraduate education at the College of Wooster. He has published work in journals such as Sociological Focus, Sociology of Religion, Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Zygon: Journal of Science and Religion, and in public outlets such as The Conversation. He is also working on a book about race, religion, and trust in science and medicine among evangelical Christians.
