Guangquan Shen is a PhD candidate in Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington. His research interests lie in the sociology of gender, sexualities, family, and social networks. He also collaborates on medical sociology research examining mental health stigma. His dissertation, "Dealing with Marriage Pressure: Continuity and Change in Marriage in Contemporary Urban China," examines how gender and sexuality intersect to shape experiences of and responses to familial expectations across diverse social groups. Through in-depth interviews and social network analysis, his work reveals distinct strategic responses to marriage pressure and identifies emergent sexual identities that challenge traditional gender norms. His research has been supported by the ASA DDRIG.
