Maritza Mestre Steele is a Ph.D. candidate in the Sociology department at Indiana University. She received her B.A. in sociology from DePauw University in 2014 and her M.A. in sociology from Indiana University in 2017. Her research surrounds education, children and youth, and race, class, and gender. Maritza’s dissertation research draws on ethnographic observations and interviews in a rural elementary school to consider how children learn about and negotiate differences.
